Spot It Early: How Teens Can Check Their Own Spine

Introduction
You know your body better than anyone else — and that includes your spine. Catching scoliosis early gives you more options for treatment.

Quick Self-Check You Can Do at Home:

  1. Shoulder Check: Stand in front of a mirror. Are your shoulders level?

  2. Waist Check: Put your hands on your hips. Do both sides look the same?

  3. Forward Bend Test: Bend forward slowly with arms dangling. Ask someone to look for a bump on one side of your back.

Why This Matters
Early curves can be corrected or managed with a brace. Ignoring it may lead to back pain or surgery later.

Tip for Teens:
If something looks off, talk to your parents or school nurse. You are your own best advocate.
